[united press ASSOCIATION.] Wellington, April 9, In Chambeis this morning, an application was made to have the plea of defence in the case of Forest v. Wilson struck out, on the ground that it was against law. The case is one in which a man named Forest, who drew a winning ticket in Robin Hood’s consultation, entrusted defendant to draw the money. The latter did so, but out of .£632 paid to him, he only paid plaintiff .£l3O. The latter now sues him for £502. The defence set up is based on the provisions of the Gaming and Lotteries Act.. His Honor held that such defence was perfectly permissable. Auckland, April 9. The German squadion leaves tomorrow for Samoa. The number of unemployed in Aucklaun is stated to be ISO.

Dunedin, April 9. A lad named Park, aged 7 years, a son of the principal lighthouse keeper at Tiiaroa Heads, fell over a dliff and was drowned. The body is not yet recovered.

Alexander Mitchell pleaded guilty to forgery and uttering, and was sentenced to two years’ imprisonment with hard labor.
