WESTLAND CHARITABLE AID BOARD.
A meeting of the. Board was held at Hokitika on Wednesday evening ; present —The Chairman (Mr Michel), and Mess is Grimmotni, Burger and Jack. The following tepnrt of business of interest to the public here is from our exchanges;— Letter from the Secretary of the Knmara Hospital, applying for £l2 10s Id.—The Secretary was instructed to write to the Trustees referring the letter from the Government to them.
From the Premier’s office, Wellington, stating that ho had received notice that the Knmara Benevolent Society was suspended, and that he had received an application for aid to n destitute family there, and stating that it was the duty of the Board to furnish relief.—Referred to the Trustees. From the Premier’s Office, Wellington, requesting that all accounts forwarded Ire drawn up in the prescribed form.— Received.
From W. Wiesner, Knmara, accepting the appointment of auditor to the Kumar.v Hospital.—Received. From Ihe Secretary Of the Westland Hospital, asking for a grant, of £3OO, in ordei to pay off the February-March accounts.—Resolved that the request be granted. From the Secretary of the Knmara Hospital, forwarding an estimate of the Hospitals expenses for 'he ensuing year, also applying for £207, balance of deficiency to ho contributed by the Board. Received, and request granted. From the Secretary Ross Hospital, forwarding complaints against the doctor. — Received. The letter from Dr. M'Leod was laid on the table and discussed. The impression of the meeting seemed to bo that Dr. M‘Lcod had been guilty of great impertinence in addressing such a letter to the Board. In the course of iris remarks the Surgeon of the Ross Hospital objected to Mr Grimmond sitting on the Board while his case was being considered, on the ground that he had all along been most hostile to him (the doctor), and that if ho do so it would he evincing a gross want of the
spirit of fair play.—Mr Grimmond said that he had of his own accord at the inquiry at Ross left rlie room, but here it was quite another ease.—The Board thou unanimously decided to give Dr. M'Leod three, months’ notice, and a resolution was passed to that effect. This concluded the business, and the Board adjourned.
