LOCAL BODIES' HOSPITIL TRUSTEES.
[to the editor.] Sir—ln your report of the List BoWugh Council meeting, I notice a lot of fiiK-.ssiiiy went on between the councillors to represent the borough -.-. p. Tinstpcs for the Kunmra, llokilika and Ross Hospitals. The playful \y,y in which some of t::o councillors, or;*: after the oilier, were proposed, ami declined the tempting offer,'is cinu.jin». Cr. Ar.doison consented to go to Hckitika and Cr. Maloney to &t.;y at home " to watch Ihe boys heyont now." No councillor could be tempted to uudei'fake tbe Ross; tmstecship. To a councillor of traveling moppoKrie; it was a grand opportunity iu Lavu uu ucj.^iouai
pleasure tup in tin; country, of nearly eighty milfs. What lucky men (I mean councillors) to be able to jocularly refuse what hundreds of less fortunate beings are next door to dying for—country air and a Icig enjoyable ride monthly ! Would it be informal to appoint a trustee for the Hospital outside of the Council and Town Clerk ? The undersigned would not think twice about accepting the responsibility—that is—that is if the expenses are paid by—whom shall I say 1 I don't know ; can you, sir, or any of your leaders, inform me ! To continue : I like the idea, bar the expense, immensely—the Mayor (Mr Burger), Cr. Anderson and myself coaching away down south, Mr Burner (who is on the Central something, I forget what, at Hokitika) and Cr. Auderson I shall leave at Hokitika, myself proceeding on to 8.054 to fulfil the onerous duties of toy charge. On the way I expect to meet three or four gentlemen from Ross, the same number from Hokitika. some from Ross going to Kumara and
some coining from M oh, bother ! I'm in a muddle. Would Mr Seddon kindly come forward arid formulate a table showing concisely what all these lespectable gentlemen (myself included, if I am taken at my word) are doing or going to do, tripping around the conntry ? The information will be acceptable to subscribers to Hospital funds, who would aiso like to know from one of our law-makers—Mr Seddon, our member, or Mr Bevan, the member for Hokitika—if this innovation is the tnuch-at one-time-talked-of "largely extended poweis of local government 1" Subscriber. Kumara, April 6, 1886.
