KUMARA SLUDGE CHANNELS.

PROPOSAL BY GOVERNMENT.— MEETING OP MINERS.

At the instance of H. A. Gordon, Esq., Inspector of Mines, a meeting of representatives of the various claimholders to be benefitted by the construction of the No. 2 sludge-channel was held in the Manager's Office, Tui street, on Monday evening, when a proposal was madp by Mr Gordon, on behalf of the Government, to the miners to take into their own hands the management and maintenance of this channel. After discussion, the reptesentatives, who were all, except Meade and party, disposed to accept the offer, it was resolved to refer the matter to a meeting of all the miners interested. Accordingly, a meeting of all persons interested was held in the Public Hall, Dillman's Town, last evening. There was a large attendance, all the claims working into the sludgechaunel being largely lepresented. The following resolutions were carried unanimously : 1. That in the opinion of this meeting we accept the offer of the Government in taking over the No. 2 channel and the upper part of No. .1 channel, provided sufficient flushing water is supplied. 2. That each party using the channel pay a pro rata cost of maintenance. The meeting also took into consideration the best means of conveying flushing water to the lower part of No. 1 channel, and after due consideration, were of opinion that the best method would be to convey it by piping suspended under the caps in No. 1 channel, as least likely to suffer damage and least likely to cause fmther expense.
