GREY COUNTY COUNCIL.
The Council met on Thursday morning, at nine o’clock; present—Councillors Warren (Chairman), Foley, Parfitt, Ryali, Marshall, Guinness, M'Kechnie, Taylor, and Clifford. The following business relating to the southern part of the county is reported in the Argus : correspondence. Letter from P. Foley respecting the bad state of the road at Westbrook.— Received. Letter from M. Maloney, Greenstone, regarding some of his land that was being flooded and washed away;—Received, and referred to the Road Overseer to report at next meeting. Letter from Thomas Peart, Greenstone, calling attention to the bad state of the settlement.—Referred to the Road Overseer to report at next meeting. REPORTS. Three-Mile Bridge, Greenstone Road. The piers were described as just hanging together, and being in a very dangerous condition. It could not last much longer, and a new bridge would cost not less than £Boo.—The Chairman moved that fresh applications be made to Government to have the bridge erected, and that the representative of the district urge upon the Government the necessity for the work, and explain that the Council is unable to bear the expense.—Carried, Black water and Greenstone bridges.— Both bridges were built in 1873, both are in a bad state of repair, and in want of redecking. They cost about £133 a year for repairs since being built.—The Chairman moved that tenders be called for repairs on both bridges at the next meeting of the Council.—Carried. PROSPECTING. Mr R. Paul’s report as to the progress of several of the prospecting parties subsidised by the Council under the prospecting regulations was read. A tabulated statement of the various classes of work was appended. Resolved that the parties be paid according to the schedule under which they are working, and the amount of work done. The Paroa party were not reported on owing to an accident, but would be reported upon at next meeting of the Council. The several accounts due to prospecting parties in Greenstone, Marsden, Maori Creek, and Cohden ridings. (Class 11, only in the latter), wen? passed for payment. . ROADS AND TRACKS. Or. Foley moved—“ That the sum of £6 be expended in widening road and cutting ditch to convey stagnant water at Westbrook.”—Carried. Or, Foley moved—“ That protection of Westbrook road near the Bluff be still further continued until it looks somewhat safe.”—Carried. Cr, Foley moved “That Lake Brunner track he made into a drny road.”—Cr. Guinness seconded.—Cr. Marshall opposed the work at the present time.—Crs. Ryall, M‘Kechnie, and Taylor followed suit, saying it would cost £sooo.—Motion negatived by 7 to 2. Cr. Foley moved—“ That track from Greenstone to special settlement be made into a dray road. It was stated that the amount required would he £4OOO. Negatived by 7to 2. Cr. Foley moved—“ That the attention of the Road Overseer be directed to the dangerous state of the road Greenstone to Bruce’s paddock, and to report thereon to the next meeting of Council.”—Carried. ADJOURNMENT. The sitting of the Council was adjourned to Monday, 22nd March, ! n enable the Council to meet tho Minsters of Public Works and Mines, should they then arrive in Greymouth,
