[REUTER'S TELEGRAMS.] Bv Electric Telegraph—Copyright. • >-•—< PROPOSED DISESTABLISHMENT OF THE CHURCH OF WALES. CITY OF MELBOURNE LOAN OF £150,000 SUCCESSFULLY FLOATED. (Received March 11, 1.30 p.m.) London, March 9. In the House of Commons to-day, Mr Lewis L. Dillwyn, the member for Swansea, brought forward a motion for the disestablishment by the State of the Church of Wales. A division was taken, which resulted in the motion being rejected by 241 votes to 220. Speaking on the subject, Sir William Vernon flarcourt stated he concurred in the motion in the abstract, but the whole question was so interwoven with ihe standing of the English Church that was impossible to deal with them separately.
Mails ex Valetta, from Melbourne January 28th, were delivered to-day via Brindisi. March 10. Tenders were opened to-day for the City of Melbourne loan of £150,000 at 4 per cent., the minimum of which was fixed at £lO3. The total amount tendered for is £412,000. Tenders at £lO3 lis 6d will receive 51 per cent, on their application ; above that, in full.
