Intelligence has been received by General Prendergast at Mandalay that a force of some 9000 rebels has surrounded the British position at Teraethan, the Garrison of which place only numbers 300 men. Godfrey Egremont, late Secretary of the Adelaide, Kensington, and Norwood Building and Investment Society, Adelaide, who recently absconded to Stutgart, Germany, having embezzled the funds of the Society, and who was extradited on the request of the English authorities, has been brought up at Bow street, and remanded to Adelaide.
Sir R. N. Fowler, referring to the proposal to establish a post card system with the colonies, considers that it would involve a heavy loss.
A model of the statue of her Majesty the Queen, by Joseph E. Balkin, R.A., who was commissioned to make it by the Government of New South Wales for their National Art Gallery, has been submitted to Sir Saul Samuel and Lord Rosebery, who have expressed tbeir approval of it.

In the House of Commons, Mr Pender’s proposal to construct a cable between St. Vincent and the West Coast of Africa has been sanctioned by a large majority, despite the assertion made by Mr Hennekei- Hoato'n that the. contract for its construction was a dishonest one.
