FIRE BRIGADE.

The monthly meeting of the Fire Brigade was held in the Town Hall on Wednesday evening; present—Captain Burger (in the chair), Lieut. Anderson, Treasurer Biayshaw, Secretary Rudkin, Foremen Ziegler, Murtha, and Smith, Deputy-Foremen Schulstad and Howe, Branchmen Adamson and Stevenson, and Firemen M'Ewen and Hannah. The minutes of the annual meeting were read and confirmed. A letter was received from Mr W. Bogle, Napier, Hon. Secretary of the United Five Brigades Association of New Zealand, forwarding subscription forms in aid of ex-captain King. The form is addressed to the various Cap tains of Fire Brigades, and is headed with the following memo:—“ln compliance with a resolution passed at the late meeting of the United Fiie Brigades’ Association, I earnestly desire to draw the attention of your Brigade to tho lamentable case of ex-Captain King, of the Hokitika, Kuraara, and Greymonth Brigades, In the execution of his duty, whilst attending a fire in Greymouth, Mr King received such injuries to his eyes that be is now stone blind. The Association desire to enlist the substantial sympathies of the firemen of New Zealand in this case, and request that you will kindly do your best towards collecting subscriptions in aid of this comrade in his distress. Subscriptions collected to be remitted to the Association Secretary at Napier as early as possible previous to the 31st March.”

A letter was received from Mr H. Greenwood forwarding his formal resignation as a member of the brigade.— The resignation was accepted with regret. It was resolved that a case be procured for the prizes won by the Kumara team in the late competition at Napier, and that the same be placed in the Town Hall. In the event of his wishing to do so; Mr Gorraghty was allowed to withdraw his resignation as a member of the brigade. . . The transaction of some routine business concluded the business of the the meeting.
