Addressing his constituents, Sir Patrick Jennings advocated a policy of economy in the various branches of the public service. He also pronounces himself in favor o e the imposition of direct or indirect taxation in order to clear off the present deficiency on revenue, without delay. The Rotomahana sailed this afternoon, for Auckland. The Wakatipu left for Wellington tonight. (Received March 5, 1.40 p.m.) Melbourne, March 5. To-day being the day fixed for the general elections has been proclaimed a public holiday throughout Victoria. Adelaide, March o. Crooks, the late manager of the Commercial Bank of South Australia, lias been admitted to bail. The Associated B-uiks have resolved to cash the notes of the Commercial Bank if the gold belonging to the bank now deposited at two banks in Adelaide is distributed among all the banks belonging to the Association. The public feeling is generally in favor of the resumption of business by the Commercial Bank.
