Wanganui. Match 1. The eighth prize meetinc; of che New Zealand Rifle Association, commenced

at Aromoho, three and a -hal€ miles from town, >this morning. There were 211 competitors. Tlie weather was .showery. Later. Tho weather this a f tenioon was fine, but the wind b'pt, up, and the shooting was not good in conseqnence. This was shown in the shooting of some of the bpst shots, especially Stitt, of Wanwho in 1884 finished second for the carbine belt, at Auckland ; he only made four at the 500 yards, and Churton, who won the champion rifle belt at the same meeting, only succeeded in making 13. In many other, instances ■here was equally as bad shooting. The only match fired today was the Wellington match, not counting for the belts. Captain Pornell, of Wantakes first place, but ifc is said that a protest will be lodged on the aonuds that his disqualification at the last meeting of the Association, held at Island Bay, Wellington, prevents him from again competing in any Association meeting in future. The officers of the stMfiT will not express any opinion on the subject, but it is more than likely that; a friendly protest will be lodged in the event of no other being presented, so as to open up the whole question. Should any action be taken the question will be settled before the commencement of the belt matches.

Executive Council, a discussion took place whether long sniders should be allowed nt the meeting. There was great difference of opinion and further consideration was adjourned uutil tomorrow morning.

Exception having been taken to there being only one team match this year instead of two, one for rifles and one for carbines, as on previous years, the Council met to consider the matter, but decide, before taking action, to test the feeling of the competitors. It is understood that during this meeting ammunition manufactured in Auckland will be tested. This will not be done in any match, but some of the best shots will be chosen to fire a few rounds.
