There was but a moderate .attendance at the Theatre Royal last night to witness Professor Rice give his second exhibition of thought-reading ; but it is admitted that if he had been near so successful at his first entertainment he must have had a crowded house last evening. However, he succeeded in every case in taking his
committee-man or subject to the object of which he had been thinking, thus illustrating to the entire satisfaction of the audience the marvelous truth of the " brain-wave " theory. Success no doubt much depends on the power and will of the subject to think clearly and continuously of the object in the mind's view ; and this must have been the case last night. The Professor's tricks are also very clever, and he was several times loudly applauded. Mrs Rice sang several songs with good effect. In consequence of the complete and intense satisfaction given last night, the Professor has resolved to give another exhibition of his abilities to-night, so that those who have not had an opportunity of witnessing this wonderful power of thought-reading may have an opportunity of doing so. The Napier Herald states, on the authority of a Christchurch correspondent with reference to the severed hand mystery, that the hand was identified soon after it was found as the hand of a shoemaker who had died at a Volunteer review a few days before. The authorities were informed of the circumstance, but apparently no steps have been taken to verify his information.
It is said that a piece of zinc placed on the coals of a hot stove will clean the stove pipe. The vapour produced carries off the soot by chemical decomposition. W. J. M'llroy and Co., Main street, Kumara, beg to announce that they are purchasers of gold.—[Advt.] Drunken Stuff.—How many children and women are slowly and surely dying, or rather being killed, by excessive doctoring, or the daily use of some drug or drunken stuff called medicine, that no one knows what it is made of, who can easily be cured and saved by American Co.'s Hop Bitters, which is so pure, simple, and harmless that the most frail woman, weakest invalid, or small child can trust in it! See
Facts.—Close confinement and careful attention to all factory work gives the operatives pallid faces, poor appetites, languid, miserable feeliugs, poor blood, inactive liver, kidneys, &c, and all the physicians and medicine in the world cannot help them unless they get out of doors or use American Co.'s Hop Bitters. None need suffer if they will use it freely. See
