MISCELLANEA
The young Earl of Dudley is about to visit Australia and New Zealand. His newly-fitted steam yacht Marches* left Southampton recently for Rio, where Lord Dudley and his uncle, Mr Moncreiffe, will join her, and thence proceed to New Zealand via the Straights of Magellan. The young Earl inherits to the full his mother’s splendid beauty and his father’s fine physique. He will be one of the handsomest as well as one of the richest peers in England when he comes of age, eighteen months hence, and (needless to say), a great “matrimonial catch.” Australian beauties are, however, wained that at present his Lordship is very carefully “shepherded” by bis uncle and a governor or tutor. Queen Victoria sent a beautiful wreath of immortelles to Madrid on the occasion of the death of King Alfonso, to which was attached a card, bearing an expression of sorrow and regret in her own handwriting. Queen Christina was deeply touched by this token of sympathy and regard from Queen Victoria. The wreath was placed on the catafalque, office, s of the Royal household being specially appointed to leceive and guard it. The entire Royal Family and those who are aware of the gracious and kindly act of the Queen of England appreciate it as an exceptional honour, and an historical event for Spain. It has been asked that this expression of their sentiments should be made public.
