THE “NORMAN ELECTRIC LIGHT COMPANY.”

We have received from Mr H. P. Hubbard, our agent at New Haven, Connecticut, IJ.S.A., the following

warning ;

Dear Sir: Having received from many nf the Australian and Hew Zealand publishers, (for my investigation and approval) an advertising proposal sent them by a Hew York concern under the name of “ Pemberton Ayer and C 0.," offering a dooblecolnmn advertisement of the “Herman Electric Light C 0.,” of Philadelphia, Pa., to bo inserted “in all numbers of your paper for three months” I have investigated the character of these concerns, (both “ Agency ” and advertisers), and find them both unmitigated frauds and swindles.

The Press of the countries named, I fear, have been largely taken in ’by these imposters, and may have unwittingly led their readers to make remittances to the Philadelphia concern ; if so, they may render a valuable service to the public by cautioning them against the impostors. 0 I append a telegraphic dispatch which appeared in the Hew York Tribune of January 6th, 1886.

Yours, <fec,, H. P. Hubbard, £vew Haven, January 7, 1886.

“ Philadelphia, January 5, (Special). Mayor Smith this morning received a letter from the Inspector-General of Police of Hew South Wales and a citizen ot Hew Zealand, asking particulars about the ‘Horman Electric Light Company, of Philadelphia,’ winch has been advertising extensively in Sydney and other parts of the colony. The authorities answered that the company is doubtless one of the schemes of Emil Bassett, of Hew York, who, under the name of Marsh Bassett, was detected in carrying on a bogns watch business m this city and is now awaiting trial in the United States Conn.”
