SUCCESS TO THE MEN OF THE COAST.
We have to apologise to Mr James M'Kenna for so long deferring to notice the receipt of a copy of the song " Success to the Men of the Cast," the words being written and the music composed by him. The words are a genuine tribute of respect to the thrift and energy of the West Coast miners and the " fair friends, true and kind," who make happy homes for them. The music is inspiriting, and being of a martial strain, will no doubt"find a place in tbe portfolios of our local bands. The following are the words of the song:— SUCCESS TO THE MEN OF THE COAST. The miners are a happy class, When getting lots of gold ; And always ready to assist, The needy and the old. They lead an independent life, And they obey the laws ; And never enter into strife, Without sufficient cause. CHORUS. Then, success to the men of the Coast, And this always will be my toast : Wherever I go, till I am kid low, I will drink to the men of the Coast. The miners have been much reviled By men whom they have made, For now they feel that they can thrive Without the miners' aid ; Like men who having climbed to fame And find that they can stay Upon the height that they have reached, lhey kick the steps away. Chorus—Then success, &c. We know the miners as a class Are careless, kind and bold, And often work for many months Without a speck of gold. When fortune takes her wayward nVht Like shadows in a dream, s The stings of want are blunted here For friendship reigns supreme. Chorus—Then success, &c. The miners' lives are made more bright By fair friends true and kind, ° And better girls you never can Throughout the whole world find. Avoiding paltry prudish ways, And leading modest lives, Our West Coastgirlsmake charmingfriends And most excellent wives. Chorus—Then success to the girls, &c.
