This morning's West Coast Times states :—" It is rumoured that Mr R. J. Seddon, tho member for Kumara, will contest tho Gladstone electoral seat at the next general election against the notorious Captain Sutter. Tlie object ' the Irrepressible ' has in view being to eli'ectitally prove the fallacy of the figures (j noted in connection with goldhelds statistics, and to show that agriculturists have an opinion of miners different from that held by a few wrong-headed politicians of the Sutter stamp."* The Guardian says ''The Inangahua electors are anxious to induce Mr R. J. Seddon to transfer his representation from Kumara to that electorate. The Reefton people are scarcely satisfied to be represented by a lawyer residing at Wellington, and entirely unconnected with the mining interest. If Mr Seddon chose, we believe the Inangahua miners would return him at very little cost or trouble, against all coiners. Indeed there are at least half a dozen constituencies who would be -dad to secure Mr Seddon's parliamentary services. At the luncheon at Kuniara the other day, his Excellency the Governor spoke in the very highest terms of .A[r Seddon 'as one of the foremost men of the Legislature in ability, energy, resource, and parliamentary knowledge.' This was a high compliment, from the highest quarter. We hardly think it likely that ' Richard John ' will forsake Kumara, however, as there is no apparent reason for the change. Should he do so, we should probably have Mr M'Whirter, Mr P, Dungan, or 11. R. Rae in the field." Commander Edwin wired at o.IG this afternoon—" Indications glass falling and wind backing soon."
