CRICKET.—DUNGANVILLE V. MARSDEN.
[From the Greymouth Star.] Any stranger visiting Dunganville on Saturday last would have thought that it was preparing to receive a visit from the Governor. A splendid arch of ferns and flowers with a banner in the centre was erected across the street. Men, women, and children dressed in their best thronged the town, ready to welcome, not his Excellency, but the Marsden cricketers and their friends. Saturday last being the day chosen for the return match between the two teams, and it being the first occasion on which a cricket match has been played there, and being such glorious weather, every one who could manage it was present. The Maori Creek Quadrille Band kindly gave their services, so that those who were tired of looking at the cricket could trip the "light fantastic toe." After ihe match was over the cricketers and their frieuds adjourned to Host M'Kechnie's, where a splendid dinner was awaiting them. Dancing commenced about 8 o'clock in the Public }JaIJ, and was kept up till nearly daylight. I must not forget to mention that Mr M'XCechnie has given a complete cricketing set to be competed for by the Marsden and Dunganville Clubs before the end of ihe season. The following are the scores :—. ' Dunganville. Loftus, bA. Blair ... 10 Tuckey, st G. Blair, b White" .'.'.' o W. Larcombe, b A. Blair 7 •J. M'Fie, bA. Blair ... ..." .'.'.* 1C Ilton, bA.
