DIPHTHERIA AND THOUGHTLESSNESS.
[to the editor.] At Seterina’s house, near the Boundary Road, diphtheria made its first appearance. The Borough Council and County Council spent some £2O in isolating the premises. The last victim to this fell disease was the adopted child of A, Sellars. His house is not 50 feet from Seterina’s. What are the Board of Health about? they have done nothing. What is the state of things? Why thus; On good authority I am i informed that the clothes, bedclothes and stained bed furnishings used at the post mortem are thrown outside. In two houses within a radius of 80 feet there are twelve children. Within 50 feet is a public road and by which 150 school children pass daily. Surely, Mr Editor, there is some remedy, and* some person responsible, and soma person punishable, the Count}' Council ot the local Bonn] of Health, bv the “ Health Act, 1876." A. Seibus should report to that body; if not, there is a heavy penalty.—Yours,
YigilaxuiKunmt’ii, January 22. ISS6.
[The foregoing loiter .vas received y 3-
terday ; but too late in the afternoon for insertion. The Board of Health met yesterday afternoon, and afterwards communicated with the County authorities, and drew the attention of the police to the matter.— Ed. K. T.]
