TROUBLESOME DACOITS IN UPPER BURMAH. (Received January 7, 12.30 p.ra. London, January 6. The latest accounts of the health of the Right Hon. W. E. Forster state that he is improving. (Received January 7, 1.30 a.m.) Cairo, January 6. The recent defeat of the rebel Soudanese Arabs by the English troops is intimidating the rebels, who have retired beyond Daibar. The British forces are returning to their head quarters at Coobay. Calcutta, January 6. The Dacoits are still troublesome in Upper Burmah, and intelligence is received stating that they have killed three Europeans who were returning from timber cutting at Palsit, twentyfour miles from Mandalay. (Received January 6, 12.30 p.m.) Rangoon, January 6. The Dacoits continue rife in Upper Burmah. Organised gangs of these robbers are keeping Mandalay and its vicinity in a state or terror. In consequence of their depredations, General Prendergast has despatched two columns of troops with the object of crushing these marauders. [special to PRESS ASSOCIATION. 1 London, December 31. Mr G. O. Treveliyn repudiates the proposal to establish an Irish Parliament. Exhibits are now being received for the Indian and Colonial Exhibition. • January I. The British Government are preparing to negotiate with the Soudanese for a pacific settlement of the Soudan difficulty. January 3. It is repoi ted that Prince Bismarck has withdrawn his opposition to the proposed marriage between Prince Alexander of Bulgaria and Princess Victoria, eldest daughter of the Crown Prince of Germany. The Servians complain that the Bulgarians have not evacuated Bregon, a frontier town north of Widdin.
