SERIOUS BUSH FIRES. ‘ (Received January 5, 10.20 p.m. Sydney, January 5. # The Union steamship Hauroto arrived from New Zealand this morning. The New South Wales revenue returns are published to-day. They show the revenue for the quarter ended December 31st to be £2,200,000, being a decrease of £l7O compared with the corresponding period of last year. The total revenue for the year just passed amounts to £7,590,000, being an increase of £471,000 as compared with last year, while the expenditure for the year amounts to £8,820,000. (Received January 5, 2.10 p.m.) Melbourne, January 5. The effects of the wharf labourers’ strike aie extending in other directions, but the masters remain firmly united. A large numbers of steamers engaged in the intercolonial trade have been laid up, including the Gabo, Buinyong, Eiado, Corangamite, Burrumbeet, and others. Howard Smith and Sons, Huddart, Parker and Co., and the Australian Steam Navigation Company have doubled their freights to Sydney and Queensland. (Received January G, 1.15 a.m.) The Melbon me masters have addressed a combined request to the Sydney shipowners, asking them to coopeiatc in meeting the effects of the wharf labourers’ strike. (Received January 0, 1 p.m.) January 6. The aspect of the wharf labourers’ strike is unchanged. Mr M'Tlwrailb, owner of the steamer Morkoowaz, has yielded to the demands of the men; but other shipowners remain firm. la the case of vessels from England the crews are loading and discharging ships. Sixty men have been engaged in Adelaide, and will go to woik shortly. Intense heat has prevailed during the past two days in South Australia* Victoria and Tasmania. No less than eight deaths from sunstroke have occurred in Adelaide. Serious bush fires are reported in

various localities in Victoria and the Otway ranges. In the western district a tract of country 55 miles in extent is in flames.
