A district order issued at Hokitika on the 14th November last, gave the following rules and regulations under which the firing for prizes in the Westland District would be conducted : One match of seven rounds at 200, 400, and 500 yards, open to all Volunteers who were enrolled prior to the 31st August, 1885, and who have attended the necessary number of parades and drills so as to qualify for capitation for the current year. Position : Standing, at 200 yards; any military position at 400 and 500 yards. No sighting shots allowed. The Government Prize Firing Regulations, dated September 20, 1883, to be complied with ; targets as laid down in section 17 of these .regulations. The Grey mouth Rifles fired for these district prizes on Saturday, the sth inst,, the First Westland (Hokitika) Rifles on Saturday, the 12th inst,, and the Kumara Rifles fired on Saturday last.
