MR. SALA AT ROTORUA.
- Tin l Rotorua correspondent of the Auckland Herald telegraphed on Saturday, 21st nit., as follows : The weather here has been very showery and unsettled, and the ceremony of opening the Blue Bath has been postponed until Mr Sala's return from the Terraces. Last night the natives got up a dance in a large wharepuna for Mr Sala. It was half war dance and half haka, with the objectionable features of the latter altogether ornitled. Instead of questionable songs, the natives grave a long wailing chant about thfir laud troubles, and the disappearance of ih«-*ir race through the steady pressure of white
men upon their native territory. At the olose of the proceedings, Mr Stla addressed a few words to the natives, which weie interpreted so them, expressing his pleasure at seeing such a Hue body of people, in their picturesque costumes. li. was qaite evident from the political cast of the songs introduced that the natives had an eye to business, and wanted to impress the great journalist with the belief that they had a grievance as a race, and that they were likely to be pressed out of existence by contact with the pakeha. To-day Mr Sala visited several points of interest, and was greatly interested with the novelty of the scene.
