KUMARA RIFLE VOLUNTEERS.

HANDICAP RIFLE MATCH FOR THE MAYOR'S TROPHY. After the weekly parade of the Rifle Volunteers last evening, the conditions and ranges for a handicap rifle match for a silver cup given by Henry Burger, Esq., Mayor of Kumara, to be competed for by members of the local corps, were read over, and, with a few slight alterations, approved of. They are as follow;

CONDITIONS AND RANGES. Ranges: 200, 400, and 500 yards, and any military position ; seven shots at each range ; Wimbledon targets 1877. 200 yards' bulls-eye, round, 8 inches in diameter ; centre, 18 inches ; outer, the remainder of target. Government Prize Firing Rules and Regulations to be adhered to. An entrance fee of one shilling to be paid on or before Saturday, 24th October, 1885, to Captain Davies. Anyone who has not entered by that date will not be allowed to compete. Two sighting shots allowed at each range for 6d each. The Cup must be won three times by the same competitor, either in succession or at intervals, before it becomes his absolute property. The entrance fees and sighting shots will be awarded to the second highest scorer. Should two or more have won the Cup twice, the one that will have the most seconds in the competition will be the winner; should there be a tie, the tie will be fired off, shot for shot, at 500 yards. All disputes to be settled by thp Government Regulations, 1884. Handicap declared on Monday, 26th inst. Tho first competition to take place on Friday, the 30th at 5.30 a.m. sharp, and on Saturday, 31st, at 5.30 a.m. and 2 p.m. The competition must take place on the days appointed, when the range is not required for Government shooting. Should any competitor nob be able to be present at the time appointed on Saturday afternoon, he will be allowed to fire after the others are finished ; but two competitors must be present to witness his shootiug. Au officer or non-commissioned officer must be present at att competitions. The morning squads after they are arranged must fire on the morning appointed, or Saturday afternoon, or they will lose their competition.
