Mr Service stated that he considered that territory should be thrown open for the purposes of trade. He also informed the House that he intended shortly to propose the appropriation of the Victorian quota towards the £15,000 per annum for five years required from the colonies towards the expenses of the High Commissioner. During the passage a death occurred from an infectious disease, but as a month had since elapsed, she was admitted to pratique. Arrived, yesterday afternoon, the Rotomahana, from the Bluff. The New South Wales Government has at present under consideration two proposals for the San Francisco mail service—one emanating from the Government, the other from the Pacific Mail Steamship Company. The latter proposal is for the service, independent of New Zealand control. A decision is expected shortly. Arrived, this morning, the steamship Haurolo, from Wellington.
