BOROUGH COUNCIL ELECTIONS.

KUMARA. The poll for the election of three councillors fur tin; Borough of Ivuaiara, in room of Messrs Campbell, Mulvihill, and Nicholson, who retire by rotation, took place in the Town Hall yesterday, between the hours of 9 a in. and 6 pmi. The candidates were Messrs W. Killeen, J. Mulvihill, W. Kroener, and Dr. F. A. Monckton. Very little interest was manifested on the occasion, until the time drew near for closing the poll. At about half-past six, the Returning Officer made his appearance at the Town Hall door, and declared the result of the polling to be as follows : Votes. Killeen, William 104 Kroener, William ... ... 89 Mulvihill, John 83 Monckton, Francis Alexander ... 30

He therefore declared Messrs William Killeen, William Kroeuer, and John Mulvihill to be duly elected as councillors for the Borough of Kumara.—■ [Cheers.] Mr Killen briefly thanked the burgesses for tho honour they had done him in returning him and placing hiß name at the head of the poll. He moved a vote of thanks to the Returning Officer. Mr John O'Hagan said Mr Mulvihill was unavoidably absent in Hokitika, but he had instructed him if he were elected to return his thanks to the butgesses. Mr O'Hagan accordingly thanked the burgesses for Mr Mulvihill, and seconded the vote of thanks to the Returning Officer, which was carried by acclamation. An analysis of the voting shows that there were seven plumpers for Mr Killeeu, and 20 for Dr. Mouckton. HOKITIKA. Yesterday was the polling dny for the election of three members for the Hokitika Borough Council, in the room of Me.s«rs Eisfelder, Jolly, and Ramsay.
