CORRESPONDENCE.
The Editor does not, necessarily, adopthe opinions expressed by correspondents. THE BOROUGH COUNCIL AND THE LITERARY INSTITUTE. [to the editor.] Your correspondent " B versus B " seems to be in error in his remarks re the grant to Literary Society. The amount was recommended to be fixed at £lO !>y the Finance Committee of the Borough Council on the 27th August, 1883. The members present consisted of Messrs O'Hagan, Home, and Campbell; and their recommendation was adopted by the Council on that date; so that no present prominent member had anything to do with it. Again, this year the Society was voted an especial grant of £lO in addition, to make good their liabilities, eo that the Society has had very little ground for complaint at the parsimony of the Council in dealing with their applications.—Yours respectfully, A Borough Councillor. Kumara, Ist Sept., 1885.
