[united press association.] Wellington, August 29. The Hinemoa, with a number of members of Parliament, leaves on a trip to Nelson at 12 to-night. Auckland, August 29. John Lytton, farmer, of Waitakerei, was arrested yesterday afternoon on a
charge of being a dangerous lunatic, and committed to the Asylum. Lytton left home with a revolver stating that he was going to kill somebody. He entered the house of Dr. Richardson at Karangahape road, threatening to kill everyone in it. Mrs Richardson was much alarmed, but got the man to leave, and sent information to the police. Lytton next went to Mount Eden, where he discharged three chambers of the revolver before he was arrested, but no one was injured Lytton is said to have become insane through having a saddle stolen. Foul Shot, a Slander colt, it is rumoured, was sold for 600 guineas. The name of the purchaser has not transpired. Christchurch, August 29. It is probable that the open air demonstration in favor of the West Coast Railway will probably take place on Wednesday next. The committee of the League has approved the proposal. August 30. The Christchurch parade of all the head-quarters corps took place at the Cathedral this afternoon, 500 men being paraded. Wanganui August 29. Messrs Carson, Laird, Manson and Bell were yesterday served with writs, issued at the instance of Mr E. N. Liffiton, for having performed'work for the Borough Council while sitting and voting as members thereof. Some of these gentlemen are charged with as many as ten offences, and it has been estimated that which may be inflicted if the charges are substantiated will amount to £2400 in the aggregate. INTEEPROVINOIAL FOOTBALL MATCH. Christchurch, August 30. The Canterbury-Otago football match was attended by 2000 parsons. The weather was fine. A strong east wind was blowing. The game was played in two 45-minute spells. During the first Canterbury kept the ball mostly near the Otago goal line. Dauvergne secured a try. Beau tried a kick but failed to get a goal. In the second spell Allardyce, by brilliant runs secured two tries for Canterbury, from the second of which Chapman kicked a goal, Canterbury winning by nine points to nil. The Otago backs played well, but their forwards were borne down by the superior weight of the Canterbury forwards. The Canterbury dribbling was good. Both sides passed and collared well.
