In consequence of the large number of liberated convicts that have been arriving in this colony lately from New Caledonia, the Premier (Sir Alex. Stuart) has addressed a remonstrance to the Imperial Government on the subject. (Received August 17, 7.45 p.m.) Melbourne, August 17. The work of drafting the bill accepting the provisions of the Federation Enabling Act is in a forward state, and the measure will shortly be placed before Parliament. The dispute between the omnibus drivers and the company is now completely at an end. The service is carried on as usual. Arrived, this morning, the Peninsular and Oriental Company's Royal Mail steamship Valetta, from London, August 15. The New Zealand Shipping Company's Royal Mail steamship Aorangi, from Lyttelton, Bth July, arrived at Plymouth this morning, with her cargo of frozen meat in good condition.
