GOVERNMENT WATER-RACE MANAGEMENT—A COMPLAINT.
[to the editor.] S lß —Can you or any of your readers inform the public why the water from the Government race is not turned on more regularly in the mornings 1 Last week the water was turned on as follows :—On Monday, at 5.40 a.m.; on Tuesday, at 5.50 a.m. : on Wednesday, at 6.35 a.m.; on Thursday, at 5.45 a.m.; on Friday, at 5.50 a.m. ■ and on Saturday, at 6 a.m.—the last being the only day of the six that the water was turned ou at the time appointed. If miners come to their claims at six in the morning, and find the water has been running half-an-hour, they will find that they will have to pay for the half hour that the water was turned on before the time appointed, for it is turned off again on or before the end of the three hours from the time that it was turned on. So miners have to run the risk of paying for water they never use, or be in the paddock at half-past five, and run the risk of being frozen to death, for they know not what time the water will come on.—l remain, sir, yours, &c, One Who Suffers. Kumara, August 10, 1885.
