* [united press association.l Christchurch, August 4. John Hebden, editor of the Canterbury Times, who was injured in the coach accident on the 22nd July, died from his hurts last night. He was connected with the Times Office over 20 years, and was only 42 years of age. At the inquest held to-day the jury returned a verdict of accidental death, adding a rider recommending that omnibuses should carry a conductor, to obviate the necessity for the driver leaving his seat to look after persons at the back of the vehicle. Walter Edward Terry, alias Edwards, alias Wilson, who had been arrested in Wellington, was committed to trial here to-day on a charge of obtaining money and goods to the amount of £lO by means of a valueless cheque. The offence is alleged to have been committed on December 30, 1884, and a storekeeper at Glentunnel, named William Hitchett, was the victim of the fraud. A whaie at Pigeon Bay occupied by an old man named Pierre Burnandez was burned down on Sunday. Burnandez’s body was discovered among the debris. Wellington, August 4. The steamer Tamsui, from Foochow, with the new season’s teas, arrived this afternoon. Auckland, August 4. The annual report of the Racing Club showed a £IOOO debt balance wiped off during the year and £4OO to the good. The capital account showed a balance of £14,959.
