[UNITED TRESS ASSOCIATION. 1 Auckland, July 18. , William Hansen, seaman.of the NoI tero, died from injuries received in discharging cargo from the slings of the barque. Timaku, July 19. It was currently reported in town yesterday afternoon, that a patch of very promising alluvial gold land had been struck at Kakaha, a few miles north of Timaru. Dunedin, July 18. A young man named Caldervvood fell off the pier at Port Chalmers, and was drawn under the sponsons of the Koputai. A young lad named Jackson pluckily jumped into the water, and held him up until assistance arrived. Calderwood was much exhausted when rescued. Port Chalmers, July 19. The R. M.S. Ruapehu, Captain Greeristreil, from Plymouth, has arrived, via the Cape. Splendid weather has been experienced throughout the passage, and Captain Greenstreil has been presented wiih a testimonial expressive of the thanks of the passengers for his courtesy and attention. On the morning of the 24th June, Henry J. Dent, a third-class passenger, committed suicide by shooting himself through the heart with a revolver. He had on the previous day shown signs of grfvit excitement, and had threatened to shoot his tiiece ; by whom he was accompanied,
He was searched, but no weapon was found. Captain Greensfcreil remonstrated with him, and he replied he had taken a little too much to drink, and thanked the captain for his warning. A few hours afterwards he shot himself.
