The recent interprovincial chess match between Christclnirch and Dunedin has resulted in a win for Christchurch by five games to four. Mr Benbow, of Wellington, the referee, has adjudged one of the imfinished games to be a win to Christchurch, and the other to Dunedin. Here is a punning message, which we extract from the Hawkes Bay Herald,, and which chess-players will appreciate. When Sir Alexander Stuart was knighted, his brothei-, the Bishop of Waiapu telegraphed his congratulations in these words:—"Bishop salutes knight and mate.
