GREY AND WESTLAND EDUCATION BOARDS BILL.
The parliamentary correspondent of the Grey Argus telegraphs the following digest of the Westland and Grey Education Boards introduced by Mr Stout. It provides that the present Westland and Grey Education Boards shall continue in. office until March, 1886. After that there shall be a board for each district, consisting of six members, three elected by the school committees and three by the Government. In the event of the committees failing to elect members the boards will make the election. These new boards will take office at the end of March, 1886. One nominated and one elected member will retire, all being eligible for re-election. All real property which before this Act was vested in the Board and Commissioners appointed under the Westland Education District Subdivision Act, 1884, shall, when the Act comes into force, be vested in the board of the district constituted under the Act, in which such property is situated, but that a change of owners shall not affect any valid lease or change of lease now existing, except that such charge of lease shall vest in the board. School committees now in office shall be deemed duly elected for the new districts. In the schedule the areas are described as follow Westland District: All that area in the County of Westland and the Boroughs of Kumara, Hokitika, and Ross. Grey District; The County of Grey, including the Borough of Greymouth. The Bill has not yet been read a sesond time.
