At the inquest on the body of Alice Barnaby, who committed suicide by taking “ Rough on Rats,” a verdict was returned that deceased committed suicide while in a state of temporary insanity. The jury added a rider to the effect that they were of opinion that deceased had been deceived by Igoe, whose conduct towai’ds her had caused her state of mind which led to the rash act. Igoe is a restaurant keeper, on whose premises the deed was committed. A football match between the Prince Albert Club, Nelson, and the Union Club, Wellington, was played at Newton this afternoon, and won by the visitors by a try to nil. July 14. A man named Robert Sailors, formerly clerk at the Empire Hotel was found dead at Barrett’s Hotel at noon to-day, having committed suicide by taking a whole box of “ Rough on Rats.” Waring Taylor has been sent to Hokitika gaol, where he will serve his sentence. Auckland, July 11. The brig Transport, maliciously scuttled at Makarau on the night of the 4th, is now afloat and repaired. The cargo of balk timber is uninjured. She was insured in the South British for £BOO, The scuttling remains a mystery. A preliminary inquiry will be held at Kaipara, after which the matter may come before the Nautical' Court.
