The Kumara Times. Published Every Evening. MONDAY, JULY 13, 1885.

A general meeting of subscribers to the Kumara Hospital is called by the House Committee of that institution, to be held at the Town Hall this evening, at 8 o'clock. The object is said to be for the purpose of considering Hospital matters. It is no doubt with the view of laying before the subscribers the position of the Committee, and with the view of taking their opinion as to whether the Committee have acted recently in what they deemed to be the best interests of the institution. A meeting of the Hospital Committee will be held at 7.30 p.m.

The Faust Family had a much better house on Saturday at the Theatre Royal than on either of the two preceding nights. This may be said to testify in a matter-of-fact way the genuineness of the entertainment, indeed, this is saying very little. There is no doubt it is the very best exhibition of the kind which has ever visited New Zealand ; and unless we had seen with our own eyes the marvelous performances of these acrobats, we should be ever in doubt of the possibility of some of the acts being possible by human frame. The company took their departure in their specially-engaged grand coach and team of five horses yesterday .-ifti'i-nooii foi- Hnkitika, where they will play for three or four nights, afterwards at Ross j and then they will give another

night in Kumara on their return northwards.

We have had the pleasure of inspecting a capital oil picture of the late Mr Gilbert Stewart. The likeness has been enlarged from a small photograph taken by Messrs Tait Bros., and the picture, which has been executed to the order of Mrs Stewart, is finished in a most artistic manner by Mr John Tait. It now adorns the home of the family of the late respected and lamented host. The likeness, which is a Aery good one, is said to represent the late Mr Stewart best as he was known nine or ten years ago, Mr Tait's acquaintance with Mr Stewart extending considerably over that time. Gentlemen willing to form a Spelling Bee Club are requested to send in their names to Mr A. J. Williamson, Dillman's Town, not later than this evening. It is unnecessary to comment on the usefulness of such a club.

From the Westport Times of the 10th inst., we learn that Mr Barrowman has been appointed inspector of works, or foreman, of the Harbor Board at a salary of £5 per week. The Cape Foulwind railway works are progressing to the entire satisfaction of those concerned. The Harbor Board have just granted Messrs Price and Clarke a payment of £1904. A Rattlesnake's Bite. The quick venom of the rattlesnake has not killed so many people as the more insidious but deadly poisons found in the air of foul rooms. The aeration of the blood by the lungs becomes impossible sometimes, and the failing health, growing weakness, and loss of appetite are harbingers of approaching death. For such cases Hop Bitters are the potent and all-powerful remedy to drive all fevers out of the system, purifying the blood, and giving a new and happy lease of life. Get Genuine.
