An inquest was held at Thompson’s Metropolitan Hotel, this afternoon, before J. Giles, Esq., Coroner, and a jury of thirteen, touching the death of Henry Morris, miner, who was killed in his claim at Larrikins yesterday morning. The following are the names of the jurymen : —W. Davidson (foreman), O. W. Anderson, D. Williams, D. M‘Lennan, T. Olliver, M. Gerraghty, W. Kroener, J. Brayshaw, R. Harrison, W. Close, W. Luton, P. Rooney, J. Schulstad. On being sworn in, the jurymen proceeded to view the body, after which evidence was taken, particulars of which will be given in our next issue. The jury returned the following verdict, ‘ ‘ That the deceased Henry Morris met with his death by the fall of a large stone whilst working in his claim at Larrikins.” The funeral takes place to-morrow afternoon, at 2 o’clock. The Argus reports that a serious accident happened yesterday afternoon to an elderly man named William Noble. He was employed in painting a house near the Greymouth State School, belonging to Mrs Felling, when he overbalanced himself and fell off a ladder to the ground, sustaining severe injuries. He was at once taken to the hospital. Written tenders will be received up to noon of Friday, 24th July, for twelve months’ supply of sawn timber for the Waimea-Kumara water-races and sludgechannel, commencing from the Ist August next. Tenders are to include supply for the whole amount required for repairs and maintenance, or for the Waimea and Kumara races separately. Specifications can be seen on application to the Manager, Mr Jas. Dand, to whom the tenders are to be addressed. The drawing of Robin Hood Company’s programme on the Melbourne Steeplechase and Waterloo Cup is to take place on Saturday next, the 4th July, and it closes here to-night, intending applicants for tickets should see the local agent at once. Boaz’ tenth Hamburg drawing is now open. The prospectus states : —“ The grand principle of these Hamburg drawings is that a purchaser of twenty-five programmes is guaranteed a prize, and the chances are in favour of the investor drawing a large prize, as there are 220 large prizes to 100 small ones. To an investor of £2 the chances are only 6 to 1 against him drawing a prize, and the head prize or any other may be drawn by an investor of 10s.” The Kiunara quadrille assembly will meet at the Adel phi Theatre to-morrow evening ; dancing to commence at eight o’clock. Steoial Notice to the Public—Yance Klaus Hassalaer will be selling in Kmnara this week. His father also, Mr Yon Don Fidegron Hassalaer, has just arrived from England, with a large stock of Boots and Shoes, which he is going to offer to the public at prices which defy competition, on Thursday, and following days.
