[united press association.] Dunedin, June 28. The City Council selected Mr W. Robertson, who has been for a number of years secretary of the Fire Brigade, as captain of the new paid body. S. S. At a well-attended special meeting of the Canterbury Chamber of Commerce hel-i to-day, a series of resolutions condemnatory of the proposed alterations in the Customs tariff was agreed to. The resolutions affirmed that, in the opinion of the Chamber, the new tariff ia calculated to be prejudicial, not only to the agricultural and commercial, but also to the manfacturing and general interests of the colony. Wellington, June 29. At a meeting of the Wellington Chamber of Commerce a resolution was tmanimously passed deprecating any important change in the tariff of 1882.
