m AID TO PROSPECTING. The County Council of Westland are prepared to receive applications from Prospecting Parties, under the followlowing conditions : Class I.—One party of 2 or 3 men in each Riding, will be subsidised at the rale of 15s per week per man, for prospecting new and unprospected country, three miles from any main or district road, and from any known workings. Class 2.—One party of 2 or 3 men in each Riding, will be subsidised as under, while prospecting Partially Worked and Prospected Country, within tolerably easy access of road communication : SINKING, Dry Ground—ls per foot from surface to 15 feet, 2s per foot from lo to 60 feet, 3s per foot from 60 feet to any greater depth. Wet Ground, Requiring Slabbing— Double the above rates. TUNNELING AND DRIVING Through Drift or Blue Reef—ls Gd per foot for Ist 500 feet, 3s Gd per foot for next 500 feet, 4s Gd per foot for next 500 feet (or any portion of 500 feet). Through Hard Rock, Requiring Blasting, or through Pug—ss per foot. All tunnels and drives to be at least 4 feet by 3 feet 6 inches. Prospectors under both class 1 and class 2, are required to send in their names to the County Council, who must approve of same. The locality of proposed prospecting operations must also be stated, for the approval of the Council. Each proposed prospecting party must send in a report, once in each month to the Council, setting forth the nature, extent, and result of operations during the previous month. All measurement of work done under class 11, to be made by the Road Overseer of the district, who will be required to certify to the voucher for payment. The subsidy under class 1 and class 2 may be discontinued, if tbe Council think necessary, on one month’s notice of discontinuance being given to the party or parties. Payment will be made monthly. Applications (giving the full names and residences of each man of the proposed party or parties, and specifying the country in which it is proposed to prospect) must be sent to the Council Chambers, on or before Tuesday, July 7 th, at 5 p.m., the application to be 'endorsed on the envelope, “ Application for Prospecting; Class I,” (or Class 11, as the case may be). REWARDS FOR THE DISCOVERY OF NEW GOLDFIELDS. The County Council are prepared to grant Rewards for the Discovery of Goldfields, as follows : For the discovery of a new goldfield, three miles from any workings;— For every 100 men employed mining there, on, at the expiration of six months from date of- disco very, a mi ward of £IOO per 100 miners, up to £s<i(.t foi 500 or more miners so employed. For the recovery of a lost lead in close proximity to the place where lead was lost, a reward equal to one half uf the above rales. And for the recovery of a lost lead (or the discovery of a new lead) one One mile from any lost lead, a reward equal to two-thirds of the above rates. Joseph Gkimmond, Conntv Cha'-rman.
