THE SCULLIN SUBSCRIPTIONS.
, [to the editor.] Sir—ln explanation of subscriptions not having been acknowledged which were raised in your district, I would feel greatly obliged by j-our inserting the following. Some months ago Robert Scu'lin, who was, and still is, a patient in the hospital came to mo nod said that as the medical officer aud one of the koDorary surgeons had recommended
him to try the Hot Springs, he would feel obliged if I would write out subscription lists for him, and allow my name to be placed on them as treasurer. I consented on condition that he should acknowledge the amount he received from each district in one of our local papers before leaving, which I naturally supposed would be within a few weeks. The amount received (£3O odd) was placed to his credit in the Post Office Savings Bank some months ago and is still there. As I have nothing whatever to do with the discharging of patients except for misconduct (which I am glad to say seldom or never occurs) I do not consider it my fault that the patient is still here and the money unacknowledged. I might also state that Mr Meade collected £l2 of the amount, which Scullin has received. Apologising for thus troubling you— I am, &c., H. Williams, Superintendent Grey River Hospital. Grey mouth, 19th June, 1885.
