(Received June 4, la,m.) London, June 2. The Homeward Australian mails, via Melbourne, April 21, per Peninsular and Oriental Company’s steamship Khedive, were delivered here to-day, via Brindisi. The mails per Messageries Maritimes steamship Melbourne, April 25th, were also delivered to-day. June 3. Various despatches which have passed between the New Zealand and Home Governments on the subject of the recent Maori Embassy have been published. Among them is a memorandum from the New Zealand Ministry, dated March 28, which declares that there is nothing in the memorial presented by the Embassy which had not been previously satisfactorily answered by the Colonial Government. Bombay, June 2. Telegrams announce that a severe earthquake has visited the district of Cashmere, causing heavy loss of life. Cairo, June 2. The 2nd Battalion East Surrey Regiment, en route to England from Soudan, have been disembarked at Alexandria. + [special to press association. I London, May 28. Captain Brennan, of Yictoria, the inventor of the torpedo bearing his name, has received a large amount from the English Government for his patent rights. The New Zealand loan is already quoted at a premium of one and a-half per Cent, It is expected that the average will he about .£99. May 30. General Graham, in his despatches, commends the general order maintained by the New South Wales contingent, and by their action a bright example has been shown of the latent military strength of the Empire, and that the soldierly spirit shown by them was a theme of universal admiration.
