London, May 14. A stroug Committee has been formed to carry out the construction of the Adelaide Ocean Dock; the necessary funds for it will be provided privately. The Eastern Extension Telegraph Company will connect Normanton, in Queensland, with the Roper River, in the Northern territory, the Adelaide Government undertaking to connect the latter place with Elsie Creek, on the overland telegraph line. The Queensland loan now in the market is quoted at a premium of 1-J per cent. Obituary—Mr Alex. Redfern, of the firm of Redfern and Co., Australian shippers. Sir S. L. Tilley, Minister of Finance in Canada, succeeds Sir Chas. Tupper as High Commissioner for Canada. May 15. The Hon. The Standard this morning announces that the Suez Canal Commission allows Egypt the control of the navigation of the Canal. A hitch has occurred in the settlement of the Franco-Chinese question. It is reported tliat Italy will occupy Suakin. May 17. The Revised Bible, which has just been issued, has been favorably received. May 18. The Irish Bishops are opposing the rumored appointment of Bishop Moran, of Sydney, to the Archbishopric of Dublin. Frosts are injuring the hop crop. Louis Rielj leader of the recent rising at Saskatchewan, will be tried for treason.
