RATES OF POSTAGE VIA SUEZ AND BRINDISI.

By an order in Council dated 28th October, 1884, the rates of pos t age 0 n correspondence transmitted via Suez and Jfrindisi are in future to be as follow : nf w Tha *i ° n and after the fifteenth day of November next, the rate of postage to ISf° n f letterS ' book-p a ckets,°and newspapers transmuted from New Zealand "Jft ce ™fe United Kingdom of Sicl BHn 1 - and 11 Ir ? aud *V «f Suez WwT f B l all - be and the sat »e is hereby fixed as herein set forth, that is to say— On all letters, one shilling per halfounce or fraction of half an ounce; On all book-packets and parcels threepence for every two ounces or traction of two ounces ; On all newspapers, twopence each. The said postage shall, in all such cases, be prepaid m New Zealand by postages'* 0 b * U P° n the covers of absent ' Pa ° ketS ' ° r new W™ 2. That on all correspondence received «L n ? ea £ d m J mails de spatchcd from the United Kmgdom on and after the date aforesaid, and which has not been prepaid in postage-stamps at the foregoing rates, a surcharge equal to the equivalent of the difference between the rates aforesaid and the postage actually affixed to the correspondence shall be made The said postage shall be payable on all such letters, book-packets, and newspapers on delivery m the colony to the pasonse to whom the same are addressed.
