VOLUNTEER RIFLE MATCH.

On the occasion of the rifle match between the three West Coast Rifle Companies, at Kumara, on Good Friday, Captain Smith (of the Grey Rifles) challenged the other companies to fire teams of 20 men, as that number, he thought, is a better test than a smaller number ; same ranges and conditions «s at Kumara except that sighting shots were not allowed, and each team to fire on their own range. Third class targets at 200. yards, second class at 400 and 500 yards; seven shots at each range. The Greymouth and Kumara RifiVs fired on the days appointed, 10th and 11th inst. It was understood all three teams were to fire on the same day • but the Ist Westland (Hokitika) Rifles' have not yet fired, and the West Coast Times today says "it is not known whether they intend to compete."
