WESTLAND COUNTY COUNCIL.
♦ The following is the conclusion of the report of the business of the meeting of the Westlaud Couuty Council on Wednesday last:— MARCH ACCOUNTS. The Chairman moved, "That the accounts for March, 1885, as revised and recommended for payment by the Finance Committee, amounting to £2419 2s be now passed for payment."— Carried. HUGHES'S TRACK. Mr Seddon moved, " That tenders be invited by next meeting for the construction of a three-foot melal track from Greymouth tramway to Hughes' diggings, distance half a mile or thereabouts."—Carried. larrikin's track. Mr Dungan moved, " That tenders be invited by next meeting for the construction of gold fields track, from Larrikin's to Loopline road." —The work had been passed eighteen months ago.— Mr Seddon seconded the motion, which was carried after considerable discussion. THE OTIRA TOLLGATE. Mr Seddon, by leave, moved, " That inasmuch as that it has been contended from time to time, that the Otirato'l-gate is an obstacle in the way of settlement and detrimental to the interests of the colony generally, and to that of the provincial District of Canterbury in particular: and seeing that on behalf of the Westland County Council, the the County Chairman and Councillor Seddon have made a proposal to the Government of New Zealand to abolish the tollgate in questiou, on the Council receiving the snm of £IOOO as a moiely towards refundiug a small portion of the moneys expended on that portion of the Christchnrch road maintained by the Council. The Council, therefore, wishing to be on amicable terms with its Canterbury neighbours, and at the same time conserving the interests of the ratepayers of Westland, is prepared to ratify the offer made by the Chairman of the Council and Mr Seddon, and will, on the Government signifying its acceptance of the offer and paying the sum of £IOOO, forthwith abolish the Otira tollgate and bind itself not to levy tolls on store cattle or fat cattle coming to the saleyards." The Chairman seconded the motion, which, after some discussion, was carried on the voices. THE NEW ZEALAND EXHIBITION. Mr Seddon, by leave, moved "That application be made to the Wellington Industrial Exhibition Committee for space for the exhibits from the Westland County. That the sum of one hundred pounds be expended in procuring such exhibits as will tend to bring prominently before the world the products and resources of this part of the colony of New Zealand. That special efforts be made to procure samples of marble, the various timbers, galena, gold bearing quartz, model to Bcale showing the gold produced from Ross, Humphreys Gaily, Waiuaea, Stafford, Kanieri, and Kumara. Also that photos of the principal claims, workings, &c, of Ross, Humphrey's Gully, and Knmara be procured and exhibited. That copies of the resolution be forwarded to the Borough Councils of Hokitika, Ross, and Kurnara, and they be asked to assist," Mr Jack seconded the resolution, which was carried on the voices. The Council then adjourned sine die.
