The Iberia is 4671 tons, belongs to the Orient Line of Royal Mail steamships, is commanded by Captain J. W. Shannon, and left Sydney for London, via Aden and Suakin, on the 3rd March, under charter to the New South Wales Government.—The Australasian is one of George Thompson and Co.’s Aberdeen line of steamships, trading between London, Plymouth and Cape Town ; is 3650 tons ; is commanded by Captain Alexander Simpson ; and left for Aden and Suakin, under charter to the Government of New South Wales for the conveyance of troops, horses, and stores.—The area of the Soudan is 2,250,000 square miles, and the population from 10,000,000 to 50,000,000. It is the peculiar home of the negro race, and negroes of the highest development are found there.
