■ ♦ [united press association.] Auckland, March 17. The damage by Saturday’s gale is heavier than estimated. It appears to have swept the greater part of the province. The total damage in the province is many thousands of pounds, March 18. W. Sheehan was again before the Police Court to-day, when Sergeant Denny, of the Royal Irish Constabulary, gave evidence, and the depositions of witnesses previously taken before a magistrate in Ireland were read. One of the witnesses, a boy, in his deposition swore that he saw Sheehan and his brother-in-law Brown place the bodies in a cart and take them to the well in which they were found. Wellington, March 17. M'Coy, who was injured during a fight at Tenni races, died at Master ton yesterday. In his deposition he exonerated anyone from blame and the verdict was to the effect that there was “ nothing to show whether deceased died from misadventure or the effects of exposure.” March 18. The Government have requested Dr. Giles, R.M., of Hokitika, and Dr. Gcabham, to conduct the inquiry as to the admission of Kate Kelly, the puerperal fever patient, into the Wellington Hospital. Hutchison, Dunedin ... 450 Dunedin, March 18. The body of a man has been found on the bank of the Taieri river at Henthorn. It is believed to be that of Joseph Evans, who was drowned in the Lee stream a short time ago. It has been resolved to form a company with a capital of £50,000 to build a bridge across the Upper Harbor from Dunedin to Waverly. The Hon. Mr Larnach arrived this afternoon.
