A smart shock of earthquake was felt on Saturday night shortly after 11.30 p.m.—the exact minute between that and 11.35 p.m. being an open question. It was preceded by a rumbling noise. Chandeliers, mantel-piece ornaments, bottles, and kitchen crockery, by their swinging or jingling, added their testimony to the under-ground shake, which seems to have been more generally observed than any of the shocks which have taken place lately. It lasted from ten to twelve seconds, several persons experiencing the usual sensation of giddiness. The direction seemed to be, as on the last noted occasion, from west to east. The ordinary meeting of the Hospital Committee will be held at the Town Hall to-morrow evening, after which the Fete Committee will meet for business.
