THE CONGREGATIONAL MEETING.
[to the editor] Sir—ln reply to “ Presbyterian,” let me say that I am not ashamed of my connection with the Established Church of Scotland, and that I quite admit my having ruled with a firm hand in Kumara Presbyterian Church. I never quite believed in the Secretary and Treasurer of my Church, being a man who had compounded with his creditors for something less than ten shillings in the pound, and who was carrying on business under false pretences, resolved to make it quite hot for him. He says “the cloth counts for nothing in the colonies.” Can he honestly say so, when he along with the few who reigned supreme in that church from its first commencement, making it troublesome for every minister which has preceded me, even to their resignation, have in six short months under the rule of “ the cloth ” been obliged, as was painfully apparent last Wednesday evening, to eat humble pie, and to occupy a back seat—and this too with a woman in the play 1 — Yours very truly, Geo. Hay. Kumara, March 7, 1885.
