PROVINCIAL NEWS.
[united press association.] Wellington, March 3, An inquiry is to be held into the circumstances connected with the bloodpoisoning cases at the hospital, on Dr. Grabham’s return from Auckland. Sergeant Demny, of the Royal Irish Constabulary, was a passenger to Wellington by the Eimutaka, which arrived from London to-day. The sergeant comes out to New Zealand for the purpose of taking back with him the man Sheehan, who was arrested in Auckland on a charge of having murdered some of his relatives in Ireland several years ago. Sergeant Demny left for Auckland by the Arawata this evening. It is rumored that Chief Detective Browne has been promoted to the rank of Detective Inspector. Parliament is to be farther prorogued until the Government will decide on a date to call the hon. members together for the despatch of business. It is expected that 200 volunteers will compete at the Rifle Association meeting. Half of the men go under canvas.
