MEMORANDUM BY SERVICE ON NEW GUINEA AFFAIRS.

SORROW AT THE DEATH OF GEN GORDON.

(Received February 11, 2.30 p.m.) Melbourne, February 11. The Hon. Mr Service, Premier, has preseuted n memorandum to Government in which he expresses the disappointment of the colonies in connection with affairs in New Guinea. He contends that the colonies should have the limits of their responsibility strictly denned, or else be allowed to exercise control over the expenditure in New Guinea, and adds that his Government is not prepared to increase the £15,000 guarantee without further information.
