CRICKET MATCH
HOKITIKA V. KUMARA. A cricket match was played on Cass Square yesterday between a Kumara eleven, and a team of the Union Cricket Club. The West Coast Times reports :—Wickets were to have been pitched at eleven, but owing chiefly to the unpunctuality of one of the Hokitika men there was some delay. Finally the absentee's place was filled up. The Kumara team went first to the wickets, and ran up a total of 42, Barnett and Bell being the highest scorers with 8 and 7 respectively. Hokitika responded with 57, only two of the eleven making any stand. In their second innings, Kumara ran up a total of 39, thus leaviog the Hokitika team 25 to win, which they accomplished with the loss of three wickets. Considering thenwant of practice the Kumara team made a very fair show. The following are the scores:— KUMARA —FIRST INNINGS. J. Jones, c Hansen, b Bowen ... 3 C. Murtha, cM.
